HCFI urges Buhari to fulfil promises
The Human Concern Foundation International (HCFI), a non-governmental organisation on Sunday advised President Muhammadu Buhari to evolve a service-oriented administration that would touch the life of the masses positively. Dr Luqman AbdurRaheem, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the foundation gave the advice in an interview with The Renaissance on the sideline of fitness programme tagged “Walk for Life, Peace and Good Governance” it organised in Lagos. The NGO, in collaboration with The Muslim Congress, (TMC), Center for Global Peace Initiative (CGPI), GSK and Globacom, organised the walk that covered ten kilometres from Jibowu, Yaba through Maryland and back to Jibowu. “In line with the theme of this event, which include peace and good governance, we believed President Buhari has started well by putting forth the posture of being a peace-loving President.
“So we want him to sustain that peace and ensue transparency in running the government so as to engender good governance. “He must have zero tolerance for corruption, there must be respect for rule of law and constitution and there must accountability in line with the Freedom of Information law,” AbdurRaheem said. The chairman stressed the need to redefine politics to reflect the spirit of using politics to serve the humanity. “So, what we are expecting him (Buhari) to do is to deliver service to the people and to be accountable to God and man. With this, good governance will be achieved in Nigeria,” he said.
On the activities of HCFI, AbdurRaheem said that the organisation was open to all and sundary, irrespective of religious, ethnic or tribal affiliation. “Health is very important for everybody. Our programmes focus all Nigerians and humanity is our constituency so we do not discriminate. “We are looking at things that concern every one us as human beings.“Our operation conducting Medical Caravan programme, through which we give free drugs, conduct various tests ranging from malaria, high blood pressure, and even HIV test. “In fact we also engage in blood donation to government hospitals and we have done that significantly in Mushin area of Lagos and it attracted the state government attention. “Aside from that, we also do intervention for threatening heart-related diseases and we have had Muslims and non-Muslims, who have written to us and we have start raising money for them.“In the past week we gave N1 million to Somalia refugees and we have donated cash and materials to hospitals in South West, South East and The North.
“However, because of limited finances, we have not been able to replicate it in the other zones of the country, but we have done have had significant impact, AbdurRaheem, who doubles and the President of The Muslim Congress (TMC) said.
